Narratives of Peace – Day 1 🕊️
The first day of “Narratives of Peace: Innovating Conflict Resolution through Digital Storytelling” marked the beginning of Stage 1, bringing together participants from different countries to explore the connection between storytelling and peacebuilding.
The day focused on getting to know one another, introducing digital storytelling as a tool for social change, and exploring the key principles of conflict resolution. Participants also shared personal experiences of conflict, creating a deeper understanding of the importance of dialogue and storytelling.
The project will continue with Stage 2 in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, where participants will meet in person and further develop their skills in using digital narratives to promote peace and address conflict.
Overall, the first day established a strong foundation of connection, empathy, storytelling, and collaboration for the project ahead.
Narratives of Peace: Innovating Conflict Resolution through Digital Storytelling (Stage 2)
has officially come to an end in Sarajevo, and what an unforgettable week it was!
For seven inspiring days, participants from Malta, Armenia, TĂĽrkiye, Hungary, Georgia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, Italy, Bulgaria, and Ukraine came together to discover how storytelling can connect people, challenge divided perspectives, and transform conflict into meaningful dialogue.
The week began with arrivals, rest, and our first walks around the beautiful city of Sarajevo. Soon after, team-building activities helped turn a group of strangers into a close and supportive team. Participants then worked together to script, plan, and storyboard six original short films focused on conflict resolution.
Between the creative work, we also had the opportunity to experience the Bosnian countryside through rafting and explore Sarajevo, giving everyone a chance to relax, connect, and appreciate the importance of balance during an intensive project.
One of the highlights was the filming day, when six groups created and edited their own two- to three-minute stories in just one day. Each video offered a unique perspective on peace, memory, communication, and dialogue.
We ended the project with meaningful reflections, sharing our favourite memories and the lessons and topics that had the greatest impact on us. Saying goodbye was not easy, but everyone left with new experiences, friendships, and memories that will last far beyond the project.
Our two Intercultural Nights were also unforgettable! Through food, music, dancing, traditions, and stories, we discovered the cultures of Bulgaria, Montenegro, Serbia, Hungary, Italy, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Malta, Armenia, Ukraine, Georgia, and TĂĽrkiye. They reminded us that sometimes, peace begins with something as simple as gathering around the same table.
For many participants, this was their first major international project. What they take home is much more than digital storytelling experience. They gained a greater appreciation for different perspectives, built friendships across borders, and experienced firsthand how cultural diversity can bring people closer together.
